Raquel Martínez-Gómez
Raquel Martínez-Gómez was born in La Mancha (Albacete, Spain). Her most recent novel is La máscara del rey maya (Planeta, 2023). Sombras de unicornio was awarded the European Union Prize for Literature (EUPL, 2010) and the Ateneo de Sevilla Prize (2007). Los huecos de la memoria received the Antonio García Cubas Historical Novel Prize from Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in 2018. Ceniza de ombú was published in Uruguay in 2017 and later serialized in Meer. Del color de la lava won the Ciudad de Móstoles Prize (2002).
She currently lives in the Sierra de Madrid, where she has just published the short-story collection Los aullidos del cuerpo. She has also written several poetry collections, including a-La quebrada and rugido de jaguarA (unpublished). Her works have been translated into thirteen languages.
She has a PhD in International Relations from the Complutense University of Madrid and an MA in Modern and Contemporary Literature, Culture and Thought from the University of Sussex, UK.
She combines her writing with her work, specializing in the field of social justice and human rights. Prior to this, she lived in Uruguay, United Kingdom and Mexico, and participated in university or literary programs in Argentina, Cuba and Canada.
